Oregon Scientific MEEP Review, 7.8 out of based on 4 ratings

Kids are becoming more aware of technology, often taking over the home computer, laptop, netbook or mobile device. Ask any mother or father how often they turn around to see their little one has gotten ahold of their phone or other computing device.

Now you can let them connect with their own device thanks to the Oregon Scientific MEEP. With programs that are catered to them, there will be no more begging and pleading for your tablet or phone. The tablet is recommended for ages 6 to 10 years old.

The interactive tablet offers streaming television through High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), built-in Wi-Fi Internet and a wide range of games, apps, e-books, music and movies that will keep the kids entertained for hours. The tablet encourages creativity, technology based interaction and virtual fun.

Once the tablet is started, it can immediately be used with pre-loaded games and applications.  With Wi-Fi enabled, you can be sure the tablet always stays up-to-date with the latest device updates.

Recommended for ages six and up, the tablet features cloud based parental settings that can be adjusted from a computer or mobile device for top-notch security. Parents can login to the MEEP Parent Portal to set internet access and even usage time.

The tablet features zForce touch screen technology, allowing gesture, sweeps and multi-touch interaction. Parents can purchase additional accessories for added fun, like a steering wheel attachment, joystick, microphone, headphones, drum set and piano.

Use the accessories to rock-out with friends or challenge them in one of the hundreds of games. The colorful silicone sleeve casing comes in four colors: pink, orange, blue and black and provides a safe grip for heavy duty playing. It is easily removed when cleaning or attaching accessories.

Oregon Scientific MEEP Final Thoughts

The MEEP store offers a wide range of free and paid apps, movies, games, music and e-books. Parents can top-up the MEEP account and provide their children with access codes in order to download files. Kids love the ability to pick and choose the items they want.

All applications and files are child-friendly, interactive, innovative and educational. The interface is child’s play, with easy instructions, setup, installation and usage. Beware, the MEEP is so fun that parents may end up ditching their device to play some of the exciting apps with the kids.

It may be considered a bit pricey at around $150 currently, but if it does become popular, you may find it hard to locate if you don’t pay an even higher price. The other way to look at it is that this will be something that is used for more than one year most likely, following your child for at least a couple years if not longer.

I think the exclusion of access to the Google Play Store was a bad idea. There are literally thousands of games and apps that kids will not have access to (for example: Cut the Rope, Where’s my Perry, Monster Park, and Temple Run). There are ways to control content of accessible media on the Play Store. I think you should have left that to the parents. I am considering purchasing a couple of tablets for my children but I do not want them to not have access to literally hundreds of thousands of games and apps in the Play Store, which would happen if I bought this one, which would mean that my kids would probably still be grabbing my phone.

We just bought one of these for our daughter for Christmas. I’m nervous because I have only found limited information on the product and I’m not very familiar with Oregon Scientific in general. She currently uses an iPhone 3g (no cell service) to play games, watch videos and listen to music. The issue with the iPhone is that it’s very old and therefore slow. I hope this is amazing and she loves it in December!
