Your baby has outgrown the infant toys now that he is a year old. It’s time to go shopping for the top toys for 1 year olds. He’s probably on the move a great portion of the time practicing his new found mobility. So you will want to shop for those toys that are going to encourage him to be up and moving around.
Big on the list are push and pull toys, he will have a great time pushing them around the floor, while he motors along behind. The pull toys are for the more advanced walker that has the ability to look behind him while he is walking. Wagons are ideal because he can load them up with other toys, pull it across the floor and unload. He will gladly load it up and do it all over again.
Ride-on toys are always a big hit. He will enjoy these even more than walking. These toys are a great mode of self-locomotion, but sometimes he will get tired of propelling himself. Most of the smaller ride on toys will have handles so that mom or dad can push them. Avoid the electronic versions, they are more expensive and take the fun from the ability to get around under his own power.
Children learn from mimicry. An assortment of tool bench and toy kitchen toys are available for the fix it or junior chef kids. They will get hours of fun time out of the smaller versions of mom’s kitchen, or dad’s garage. These toys will give them the chance to be just like his favorite parent and will hold his interest for several months as he gets more sophisticated in his play.
