A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away … LEGO and Star Wars were married and the offspring since that moment has been wonderful. Before we take a look at some of the best LEGO Star Wars sets for 2012, we have a quick rundown of the original three movies – episodes IV through VI – done with LEGOs by a fast talking boy.
LEGO 2012 Star Wars Advent Calendar 9509
This allows you to count down to Christmas with 24 Star Wars LEGO themed gifts! Basically, if you’re not familiar with an advent calendar, you open a window on the calendar every day to reveal 24 different LEGO Star Wars – themed gifts. The set this year includes nine LEGO minifigures, including 2 holiday-themed minifigures. This is great for the children who love collecting the little characters more than building things. Vehicles in this Christmas set for 2012 include a mini Gungan Sub and General Grievous’ Starfighter.
LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon
Wow! That’s all there is to say about this mammoth Star Wars LEGO set. It is VERY expensive – we’re talking over $3,000 this year – but for some people, it is a must-have. For those with the money – and an intense love of Star Wars and LEGO both – this is a great way to get a fix and then have something massive to display in your home or office. You can get a smaller, less expensive version here.
LEGO Star Wars ZipBin Battle Bridge Carry Case Playmat
This has two uses and is cheap! Well, it’s made nice, but the price is super low – around $10 to $20 most places. For Star Wars LEGO fans, it’s a great way to take everything – or the important stuff – on a play date or sleepover. Then, when you arrive, it doubles as a playmat for your LEGO adventures. You do want to make sure you note the size before you buy as it might not be as big as you imagine in your mind. Still, for the money, it’s a great way to get LEGOs from one place to another – and have fun when you get there.
LEGO Star Wars Yoda Minifigure Clock
This LEGO Star Wars Yoda Minifigure Clock is unique, cute, and can get your youngster interested in learning how to tell time – especially if they are fans of Star Wars. While you might think little boys and girls are not into Star Wars, there are quite a few smaller children out there who love Star Wars and will eventually most likely come to love LEGO just as much as they get older. For the price – around $30 – this is a good mini-gift for a Star Wars lover.
LEGO Star Wars 9499 Gungan Sub
The LEGO Star Wars 9499 Gungan Sub building set is a bit complex, but for older boys who love the first three (or second three depending on how old you are!) this is a good set to give them to keep them occupied for a few hours at least. When finished, the sub has a cockpit that opens, two cargo holds, two cargo containers, a rotating tail, four flick missiles, detachable mini-sub with harpoon and two Lightsabers! As for minifigures, you can rotate Qui-Gon Jinn or Obi-Wan Kenobi’s head to reveal their underwater breathing apparatus!

My son loved these-I was so happy they started producing sets of just the figures. Too late for me but, it is great other parents don’t have to buy a $50+ builders set for one guy they “have to have”!
